A woman's most important accessory ... IF THERE'S ONE ITEM YOU NEED TO BUY FOR FALL, IT'S A PAIR OF BOOTS (it will be really hard to buy just one though, because there are so many amazing ones). There are a number of great, very wearable - and comfortable trends. I will focus on one a day ... to wet your appetite, here is a table of contents:

Over the Knee

Studs

Lace-ups

Cuffs

Ankle Boots

Cowboy

Buckled

Stay tuned for how to wear each one of these boot trends, shopping suggestions and favorite brands!! Any specific requests??

Denim

How does the song go? "My boyfriend's back and you're gonna be in trouble" ... Very apropos for this denim trend. This is a tough style to wear unless you're very thin and/or very tall. They are not the most flattering.

The theory is ... baggy jeans that are big in the waist, sit low on the hips and are rolled up at the hem. They can also be worn a bit higher on the waist with a belt that cinches. If you dare to wear ... I suggest partnering with a feminine slim-fitting top and heels.

Katie can pull off anything!!!

Don't wear with its namesake boyfriend sweater -
unless you want to look like a bag lady!!

This is what I would call the
ex-boyfriend look :-)

Denim

To distress or not to distress ... that is the denim question of the day.

Distressed or destroyed or whiskered jeans are still happening. While some holes, tears, rips and shreds are wearable, don't get carried away.

(this is carried away in case you
were wondering...)

These are as far as I would go,

but they're definitely OK!

Now, this is "distressing" (sorry)

Personally, I wouldn't invest in more than one pair. You could even take an old pair and destroy them yourself - tastefully.

Oh to have kept my red tabs from high school!!! Would be so much less expensive.

Tell me what you think!!! How much would you pay?

Denim

One of my favorite topics ... denim. Always a difficult subject. The 80's have a definite influence this season with Skinny Jeans, Denim Leggings, Tie Dye and Acid Washed (yikes).

Just the word "skinny" may make some cringe. Will they even go over my feet?? And by the time they reach my butt (if they ever get up there) - ugh!

Believe it or not, skinny jeans can be quite flattering at any size. Most jeans today come with some stretch - so they fit better and are more comfortable.

Jennifer Hudson looks fab!!

A great brand on a budget ... look for "Blank" Denim. So cute and they start at $68...

So, what do you think?? Are Skinny Jeans for you? Love to hear from you..............

Leggings & Studs Wrap

Final thoughts on studs and leggings. It's absolutely amazing how a trend can transcend every category of fashion. But, you're not going to believe this one ...

You're not seeing things my friends ... these are studded eyelashes.

And if that isn't enough ... I'd say she doesn't look very comfortable ... maybe the studs are actually attached to her forehead.

It's not all bad though ... here's a very wearable purse.

AND - just when I thought there was no way I'd ever wear leather leggings, I found an amazing pair from Helmut Lang. But please be careful. (Those shiny black ones can be brutal ... especially when they're faux leather. Ugh.)

AND NOW ONE FINAL AMAZING LOOK THAT BRINGS IT ALL TOGETHER - only for the younger and daring ...

Studded leggings ....

Have a great weekend. Stay tuned next week for Fall Denim.

Leggings Part Two

For 99.99999% of the population, leggings should be black and worn with a top that covers the butt to mid-thigh area (unless you're going to a halloween party as an eighties dancing queen!! - then you need to add the high heels).

In the real world, for a more dressed up look, I would choose a longer jacket or vest with a tee or shirt underneath. If you want to be more laid back, try a long boyfriend sweater - oversized cardigan - PERFECT!!

SHOES?? Depends on the top, but boots are my fave. Knee high are most flattering. There are some great boots around - but that's a Topic for another day. I actually think I have a crush on Frye.

Leggings Part One

If there's one trend that's the must have for Fall ... it's Leggings. As with any trend, you can do it tastefully or look like you're trying too hard. (you all know what that looks like)

Great fabric combo for a
more sophisticated look -
jersey/leather. These are
from Helmut Lang
(a little pricey at $460, but they're an "editors' pick").

You don't have to be
a toothpick to wear
leggings ... she looks
lovely with flat high
boots and a long shirt!

MORE ON LEGGINGS TOMORROW!

Studs?????

Are you serious? Studs are back? Don't want to look like a biker chick? (Not that there's anything wrong with riding a Harley). Studs on clothing can actually be sort of cool if done right.

Shoes are a great way to add trend to your your wardrobe but as they say in fashion ...
LESS IS MORE LADIES ...
Model Agyness Deyn out shopping for a new bicycle in central London

Just the right amount of "edgy" on this black leather jacket and the always fashion forward Current/Elliott jeans.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK????? Would love to hear ........................

Ciao for now.

WELCOME TO CLASSY CHIC

  • Are you a woman over 40ish who loves fashion but sometimes not sure how to adopt the newest trends?
  • Do you want to look stylish but in a classy way?
  • You're not a perfect size 2 anymore (or never were) - so you want tips on fit and how to wear?
  • You want fashion advice on a budget?

THEN WELCOME - THIS BLOG IS FOR YOU!! All comments and questions are welcome.

FASHION TIP OF THE DAY:

Neon colors are the rage - but be careful. You don't want to look like a crossing guard. Just add a hint - like a skinny belt (J Crew has a great one) or an accessory (like watches - look for "Projects Watches" or "Casio G-Shock").

Talk to ya tomorrow!!
